We have a few things planned for our November meeting - being held this Wednesday 6th November at 6pm at the New Town Bay Rowing Club (upstairs in the function room). Please remember there is a small cost ($5) for attending the meetings to cover venue hire, for members and non members. You are welcome to attend two meetings without becoming a member of the guild, but then we ask you to join us as a financial member. Membership forms will be available on Wednesday night.
If you would like tea or coffee at the meeting, please bring along a mug.
Jess Frost will be demonstrating some modern free motion quilting designs on her domestic machine on Wednesday night.
Helen Stubbings will be demonstrating her hexagon technique, which will be the jumping point for our first challenge, a modern Christmas hexagon challenge. The plan is to share the finished challenge items at the December meeting. Helen will also have a table with some of her products available - if there is something specific you would like her to bring along please contact Helen directly.
If you would like to join in the challenge it will be $10 for a kit including 50 hexagons from Hugs n' Kisses, a charm pack of 12 modern Christmas themed 5" squares from Frangipani Fabrics. You will also need to bring along a fabric glue stick (these will be available at the meeting for $9.90), needles, scissors and thread.
We would love everybody to bring in their latest modern quilt project for Show and Tell. It was suggested by one of our members that it would be great for all show-and-tellers to highlight the modern aspects of their quilts.
NOVEMBER SEWING DAY - SUNDAY 16TH NOVEMBER!
Our first sewing day will be held from 10am - 4pm on Sunday 16th at our regular meeting location. You will need to bring along your own sewing machine and a short extension cord. You will also need to bring along normal sewing supplies (cutting mat, rotary cutter etc). Irons and ironing boards will be supplied.
You will also need to bring along some (modern) fabric for our first sewing day challenge. Large scraps would be perfect for this challenge, or you can work from fat quarters if you prefer. A metre of fabric (in total) will be more than enough for this challenge.
Lunch will be a 'bring a plate' arrangement, so please bring along a plate of something suitable to share with the group. If you have dietary restrictions please feel free to bring along your own lunch. There is a microwave available for heating food.
10am - 12pm Improvisational Piecing Workshop and Mug Bag Challenge
Erin Vidler will be demonstrating some improv piecing techniques and guide everyone in making an improv mug bag. The idea behind this is that everyone can use their mug bag to bring their mug along to our meetings.
12 pm - Lunch Break
After Lunch - 4pm
After lunch the rest of the afternoon will be free sewing. You are free to stay as long as you would like and work on a current project in the company of our lovely guild members. I'm not sure how much actual sewing will get done (perhaps more chatting than sewing?!?), but it will be a wonderful way to get to know each other better.
