2015 Craft & Quilt Fair

Last weekend was the highly anticipated 2015 Craft & Quilt Fair, held at the Silverdome in Launceston over three days.

Our Tasmanian Modern Quilt Guild's booth was spectacular and we received an overwhelmingly positive response to our colourful display.
Special thanks to Briony, Cath, Kat and Lauren for making an early trip up on Thursday to fill up our huge twelve metre wide space!

Our beautiful TMQG banner received many compliments and also deserves a special mention.

The TMQG logo was designed by Briony Alderslade, the beautiful embroidery and needle turn applique was done by Belinda Shreeve and it was fabulously quilted by Jess Frost. The colourful bunting was made by Deb Chimes using our leftover Prism Challenge fabric.

TMQG members donated their orphan blocks and HST's for the design wall.

Our Prism Challenge was a big drawcard and more than 400 people voted for their favourite mini quilt for a chance to win a 6 month subscription to Make Modern Digital Magazine. Congratulations to Kimbra Farrell who was the lucky winner!

Congratulations to our People's Choice winner Katherine Jones who received the most votes for her gorgeous creation!
Kat won a solids bundle of fabric from Polka Dot Tea for her fabulous efforts.

Congratulations must also go to Kay Cooke who received the second highest number of votes for her lovely design,

and to Briony Alderslade who received the 3rd highest number of votes for her amazing deer head.

Well done ladies!

Many voters commented that it was extremely difficult to vote for ONLY one of these Prism Quilts!
It was a great effort by all of the TMQG members who participated in this Prism Challenge.
As you can see, the end result is a wonderfully varied and effective display.

The winner of our "Aerial" Raffle Quilt, made by TMQG members, was drawn on Sunday.
That winner was Janice Cameron from Smithton. Congratulations on winning this gorgeous quilt!
The runner up prize of  a Kona Solids fabric bundle and Carolyn Friedlander pattern, donated by Two Green Zebras, went to Willie Smith.
I'm sure that both recipients will be very pleased with their prizes!

Several of our very talented members won prizes for their quilts in the Island Quilts Exhibition.

Kathryn (Kat) Jones won several prizes for her incredible quilts:
1st place in the Open Pictorial Quilts section for her breathtaking "Peacock #1" Quilt:
Which also won "Viewer's Choice"!

2nd place for "Peacock #2" in the Small - Advanced/Professional section:

1st place in the Open Modern section for "Drip and Splash"

and 2nd place for "Green Fields", also in the Open Modern section. Well done Kat!

Shirley Jeffrey won Best Beginners Quilt for her wonderful creation "Rabbit Warren College".
This quilt was beautifully quilted by another of our members Wendy Tomes.

Cathryn Stone won 1st place in the Little Quilts category for this beauty.

Faye Harding won a well deserved 2nd place in the Little Quilts section

Jess Frost was Highly Commended for her exquisite  "Galaxy" Quilt.

Lauren Atkinson was Highly Commended for her little quilt "Good Fishing Today"

(My sincere apologies if I have left anyone out - this post will be updated as required)

There were also many other wonderful quilts made by TMQG members on display in the Modern Quilts section.

Our presence for the first time at this annual event created a buzz of excitement and made a big impact on the general craft and quilting community. We had many people express an interest in becoming future members of our wonderful Tasmanian Modern Quilt Guild!

Many thanks must go to the dedicated members of TMQG who contributed their quilts and valuable time to this event.
