Sarah Fielke Workshops

The Tasmanian Modern Quilt Guild was very pleased and honoured to have Sarah Fielke come to Hobart and teach two wonderful workshops over the weekend.

Sarah Fielke is a quilter, author, fabric designer, teacher and blogger. Her books include Material Obsession 1 and 2, Quilting From Little Things, Hand Quilted With Love and her newest release, Little Things. Sarah blogs at The Last Piece.

The first workshop "Definition of Stitch" was held on Saturday 22nd August.
Students were taught how to improv piece individual letters to create words of their choice.
These words will eventually be used in quilts designed by the students.

Here are some photos of their wonderful works in progress:

The second workshop "The Night Garden" was held on Sunday 23rd August.
Students learnt piecing skills - including sewing that dreaded y-seam! - and a technique that Sarah calls "Step Down Piecing".

Here are some photos from the Sunday workshop:

Sarah was a warm and generous tutor with a wonderful sense of humour. We all have fond memories of our time spent with her during the course of the weekend, including dinner at The Republic Bar on Saturday night.

Thanks to all of our members who came along and participated in these workshops, and of course, thank YOU Sarah!

Our next meeting will be held at 6pm on Wednesday 2nd September at the Buckingham Rowing Club, upstairs in the function room.

We hope to see you there!
