It's hard to believe that there is just over eight weeks until Christmas - eek!
This is a perfect opportunity to remind you all about TMQG's 2015 Christmas Challenge ;)
If you were able to attend our meeting earlier this month, you would have learned that this year's challenge involves using three non traditional colours -red, grey and aqua/teal - in modern fabrics to create a Christmas item using a technique demonstrated during the year. These techniques include English paper piecing, foundation paper piecing, improv, hexagons, bias binding technique, half square triangles and free motion quilting.
Projects need to be completed by our December meeting on Wednesday 2nd December.
We look forward to seeing what you come up with!
Our October meeting was a social night with plenty of opportunity for members to bring along some hand sewing to work on while enjoying a friendly chat and cuppa.
We really do have very talented members of the Tasmanian Modern Quilt Guild and this was once again evident at our monthly Show and Tell.
Margaret showed us her oh-so-cute Hazel Hedgehog cushions made using some gorgeous modern fabrics. This popular pattern is by Elizabeth Hartman who has a blog and online pattern shop at Oh Fransson
Kaye showed us two of her wonderful projects:
Firstly, her beautifully colourful Rail Fence Quilt using the QAYG (Quilt As You Go) method.
We were also fortunate enough to see Kaye's finished Improv Quilt which was started at the Sarah Fielke "Definition of Stitch" workshop held in August. Great work Kaye!
Shirley showed us her lovely Kite quilt - a small quilt she made for charity.
We were thrilled to have a visit from Carol's sweet granddaughter Madeline, who came to show us her "Cat Quilt". Thanks so much for visiting Madeline. We are sure this beautiful quilt will be a permanent fixture on your bed!
Lesley showed us her fabulous Tula Pink Colour Block quilt. This quilt pattern was offered as a free BOM (Block of the Month) class on Craftsy in 2012. A gorgeous result Lesley!
The very talented Jess showed us her fantastic Colour Block Quilt. This pattern was designed by Tula Pink and is a massive 84" x 96". Incredible job Jess!
Last but certainly not least is Kat's amazing Hexagon/Triangle Quilt she made using a Kona 11/2" roll. Beautiful work as usual Kat!
Our next meeting will be held at 6pm on Wednesday 4th November at our usual venue, the Buckingham Rowing Club, upstairs in the function room. We hope to see you there!
