Tasmanian Modern Quilt Guild presents the Kona Colour of the Year 2017 quilt challenge. To be eligible to enter the national suitcase exhibition all fabrics used must be Kona Solids by Robert Kaufman and rules below must be strictly adhered to.
The challenge is open to all members of participating Australian Modern Quilt Guilds and it is envisaged that around 40 quilts will be juried into a National travelling suitcase exhibition in 2018.   Quilts juried into this exhibition may not be returned until 2019.
Sponsors include Two Green Zebra - Kona Solids Australian distributor, Blessington (Pfaff sewing machines) and Make Modern Magazine.

1.    Quilt must include some use of Kona Colour of the year 2017 – Flamingo
2.    Quilt tops must be made from Kona Solids though any backing fabric is acceptable.
3.    Quilt size is 18 x 24 inches to hang in Portrait orientation.
4.    No art quilt embellishments such as painting or beading or mixed media.
5.    Quilts can be constructed and quilted either by machine, hand or both but must be a quilt (i.e. 3 layers joined by stitching)
6.    Quilts can either be bound or have a facing.
7.    Quilts should display a modern aesthetic however this includes modern traditional.
8.    Entries can be by an individual or group but all contributors must be an MQG member.

9.    Members may enter as ‘display only’  and will not be considered for prizes or Judging process.

The deadline for the challenge entry will be 31st December 2017 with notifications of acceptance being issued in January 2018. (quilts will be juried for the suitcase exhibition if more than 40 entries are received) This is the date you must have submitted photographs (two, one full pic - flat image of quilt, no background or styling plus a closeup photo of your choice showing workmanship and/or quilting)
In addition to the above requirement quilts selected to be included in the suitcase exhibition must have a strip of Velcro sewing along the top and two dots at the bottom for ease of hanging exhibition at events and a label in the bottom left corner showing the quilt name and makers contact details.
